We join hands with the government in ensuring that the spread of COVID-19 is controlled. Programs are underway to ensure that learning continues remotely. Our Education & Training department currently hosts mathematics lessons for Senior and FET phases (CAPS) through WhatsApp, in which learners can download videos and worksheets to use asynchronous. The department has also partnered with other organizations such as Funda Sonke, JSDT Solutions and 100KidsToVarsity to ensure that learning continues in other STEM subjects during lockdown. While we acknowledge that not all learners have smartphones, plans are underway to reach out to such. Should you happen to have any of the following: an old smartphone, tablet, or PC which you no longer need and would like to be part of this outreach endeavor, kindly email us. Contributions in terms of funds, skills and any other form which is in line with our endeavours are also welcome.
In January, our facilitators hosted the iLizwe Lam internet safety program at Letlhogile Secondary in Molelema village. We are thankful to Digify Africa for their support in this regard. Our Education & Training Department then held a teacher development workshop in Greater Taung Sub-District. The focus is still on the use of 4th IR for teaching and learning in the classroom with a special focus on STEM subjects because of the decline in enrollment and performance in such subjects. In partnership with SISANDA, we showed learners and teachers how Augmented Reality can make learning efficient and be used for practical activities, especially in schools without equipped laboratories. We are thankful to SISANDA for their virtual lab to make learning easy, especially in rural schools, where lack of resources is a great barrier to learning and understanding of science subjects.
